Uloop is like Craigslist for college campuses. That is, it is an online marketplace for college students and student life. For example, students can add a posting to the Uloop board indicating that they need a roommate for their off-campus apartment. Another thing that Uloop helps college students with is buying and selling textbooks. Fellow students are often the best resources for getting books at a discount, but the system for contacting and discovering which students have a book is not really in place...well it is now that Uloop is here. Uloop can also help students find a job or even an internship. Scholarships and student loans also have their place on the Uloop boards. Students use Uloop for so much more than this too, including car sales, furniture sales and setting up carpools. There are Uloop communities for many universities in the United States. Students can quickly locate theirs by clicking on their school's state and then finding their campus. Not all campuses are listed yet and it is restricted to just the US, but for those it is available for, Uloop sure beats the old-fashioned flyers with tear-aways!
Uloop started in 2007. As of April 2012, it connected thousands of students at over 1,500 different colleges and universities in the US. Uloop is a partner of the following services: CampusAvenus, Fastweb and USA TODAY College and more. Uloop is headquartered out of Illinois.
Uloop is different form Craigslist in that instead of breaking down its postings by geographical area, it breaks them down by campus. Plus it is geared completely towards the campus culture. Only users with a .edu email address can sign up.
Uloop is very easy and simple in its design and layout. Students can easily and quickly navigate through the site, which is responsive and professionally setup. This is a great application for students and many of them are happy when they have this service available to them.
To register for Uloop, a user will need to locate their campus and have a .edu email address to validate that they are a student or faculty of that college. New users will receive a confirmation email at their .edu address to activate their account.
Uloop is free to all students, staff and faculty with a .edu email address. Employers can pay to post Jobs, and Housing Providers can pay to post Housing available to students.
Uloops is great for the students of the 1,500 campuses that they represent. However for students outside of the US or for those who are at a unrepresented campus, this service doesn't any good. Therefore it is only recommended for students who can find their campus listed on the Uloop homepage.
